Rare stop and search order issued after people take knives and axes to an 'altercation' in Milton Keynes

A rare stop and search order is in place today (21/6) after people were seen to be in possession of knives, axes and other bladed articles during an 'altercation'.

This order, called a Section 60, was authorised following an incident that took place in Weavers Hill, Fullers Slade yesterday evening (20/6).

At about 7:30pm, residents reported seeing two groups of people involved in a fight.

Members of the public saw that the groups were in possession of multiple bladed weapons, but police believe that nobody was injured.

Officers from Thames Valley Police attended the scene shortly after the reports came in and arrested two people on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article and affray.

Inspector Gemma Price, based at Milton Keynes police station, said: “As a result of this incident, we have put a Section 60 Order in place, which will allow us extra powers to stop and search people.

“Orders such as this are put in place to aid police investigations, as well as to ensure the safety of the public.

“Our officers are also in the area on patrol as we continue our investigation. If you have any concerns, please feel free to approach them."

The order will be in place until 7:30pm this evening (21/6) - which marks 24 hours since the incident. This Section 60 will cover Fullers Slade, Greenleys, Stony Stratford and Wolverton.

It means that police officers can stop and search anybody without needing to suspect that they are carrying a weapon.

If you have any details about this incident, please call 101, quoting incident number 1785 of 20 June, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, you can make a report online.
