Rare stop and search order for whole of Milton Keynes is extended for a further 24 hours

A rare order that gives police enhanced stop and search powers in Milton Keynes has been extended for a further 24 hours.

The Section 60 order, which applies to the whole borough, means that officers can search anybody without needing to suspect that they might be carrying weapons.

It was authorised by Thames Valley Police yesterday (31/3) and has been extended for a further 24 hours, meaning it will last until 10:47am on Friday (2/4).

The order has been introduced in response to an incident on Tuesday evening (30/3), during which two teenagers sustained stab wounds.

Around 10 people were involved in the altercation, involving bladed weapons, which took place on the Redway near to Furzton Lake at 7.30pm.

Two boys sustained injuries that are non-life-threatening and are in hospital receiving treatment.

A man aged 18 and two boys, 17 and 15, all from Milton Keynes, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in custody.

Speaking about the Section 60 order yesterday, Inspector Gemma Price, of Milton Keynes Police station, said: “The order is in place to prevent further violence from taking place, so we would encourage residents to feel reassured by a police presence rather than alarmed.

“Thames Valley Police does not take the decision to implement a Section 60 lightly, and following the conclusion of this order, it can be extended if deemed necessary. We take any incidents of knife related crime extremely seriously and so you can expect to see additional officers in the area. I would strongly encourage the people to speak to officers if they have concerns."

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have potential information, should contact the police on 101 or make a report online quoting reference number 43210134271.

People who live in the Furzton or Emerson Valley areas are also being encouraged to check dashcam, CCTV, and doorbell footage to see if the cameras have captured anything that can help the investigation.

If you wish to share information but would like to remain anonymous, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
