Police warn households to securely lock sheds and outbuildings following 'suspicious' behaviour in Milton Keynes estate

Police have warned households to ensure their sheds and outbuildings are securely locked following an incident in Browns Wood.

Officers from Thames Valley Police say that around 1am on 8th April, a resident on Sullivan Crescent was "disturbed" when a man jumped over the fence and into the back garden.

The man then allegedly paid attention to the large garden shed but soon ran away after being confronted by the owner.

A police response team attended the scene within ten minutes but did not find anybody in the area.

"The individual was described as a young male, no older than late teens, slim build, around 5 foot 10 inches tall and wearing a black jacket. He was believed to have been on his own," said a spokesperson.

As a result of this incident, police have shared information detailing how households can protect their property and make it look less appealing to thieves.

The advice reads: "Ensure that you secure your sheds and outbuildings with padlocks where possible and cover any windows so that opportunists cannot see what is inside.

"Where possible make entry into your property as difficult as possible - don't leave bins or other items next to the boundary fences giving people an opportunity to climb over.

"Consider installing external lighting or sensor lights on your property as well as installing independent alarms on your sheds and outbuildings."

When residents spot a crime in progress, they should call 999 which will lead to officers attending as soon as possible. To report any concerns, or a past incident, you can call 101 or make a report online
