Police quickly disposed of dangerous used syringes that were left in a local underpass over the weekend.

A Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) from Thames Valley Police received reports from a concerned resident on Saturday (6/2) about several syringes that were scattered across an underpass in Bletchley.

The PSCO later re-attended the scene with the correct equipment, including a sharps bin, and safely collected the discarded items.

These syringes were then disposed of, and dozens of residents have thanked the police force for clearing the area so quickly.

One person also cited how she recently discovered "lots" of dirty uncapped needles next to a children's playground in Westcroft.

"I contacted our local PCSO and she arranged for them to be collected within an hour or so," she continued.

Used syringes are dangerous because those who come into contact with them are potentially at risk of contracting Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B, and possibly HIV.

Anyone who spots used syringes should not attempt to dispose of them but should contact Thames Valley Police in the first instance.

You can report such incidents by calling 101 or filling out a form on the force's website
