Police officers to run Milton Keynes Marathon in memory of colleague who died while on duty

Police officers will be taking on a marathon challenge this weekend to honour the memory of colleague PC Daniel Clayton-Drabble, who died on duty in 2018.

Dan’s friends and family are to take part in the Milton Keynes Marathon in his memory, to raise money for the Care of Police Survivors charity.

Running 10km each of the 42km (26.2 mile) race are friend David Icke (pictured left), Dan’s mother Sue Clayton-Drabble, his brother-in-law James Reece and another colleague Paul Mabbutt.

David said: “Dan (pictured right) was one of the good guys and a key member of my band of brothers. He was someone that I loved, admired, respected and trusted. He was Mr Dependable and he helped lift your spirits with the right words and his rosy-red cheeks and smile.

“We will be raising money for the Care of Police Survivors, a charity which offers tremendous support to police families that have lost a family member.”

Sue said: “We tragically lost our Dan on Boxing Day 2018. Inevitably, the past two years have been unimaginably painful but the continued support and love shown by the police family has helped us through the dark times.

"For us and many others who find themselves in similar circumstances, COPS offer invaluable support opportunities and access to counselling services to help surviving family members rebuild their shattered lives. Since its foundation in 2003, COPS has helped hundreds of police families devastated by the loss of a loved one who died on duty.”

Sue is also cycling in the Police Unity Tour, riding in honour of DC Joe Mabuto – one of Dan's colleagues who died on duty in Milton Keynes in 2016.

David - who is on a career break and is one of the winners of the Thames Valley Police Federation Police Bravery Awards - added: “Sue is so close to reaching her fundraising target. Please help us achieve that in time for the race on Sunday.

“Drabs used to love sharing the challenges that his Mum used to take on. I remember him tracking his Mum’s times when she took on the Iron Man triathlon. He was immensely proud of her and the rest of his family. So please help us to continue to support them.”

Nearly £2,000 has been raised so far and you can donate here.
