Police issue warning to residents following multiple vehicle thefts in Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police has issued a warning after multiple theft of motor vehicles in the Shenley Brook End and Tattenhoe Parish.

Thames Valley Police posted a warning message on social media stating: "MK South Neighbourhood Police team have been made aware of multiple theft of motor vehicles in the Shenley Brook End and Tattenhoe Parish. These are being investigated and the neighbourhood team are paying extra attention to the areas, so if you see us please let us know if you have any information.

"Even though we cannot completely stop these thefts from happening, we do try our best to give out relevant crime prevention advice and patrol as much as we possibly can."

They have issued the following helpful tips to residents:

    •  Lock your vehicle - even though a vehicle can be stolen if the car is locked, it greatly reduces the possibility of your vehicle being stolen. Ensure all windows are closed. If your wing mirrors close when your car is locked, double check they are closed as thieves may see this as an opportunity.
    • Keep your car keys safe - vehicles are often stolen by thieves cloning your car key or fob. Keep your keys away from your vehicle. We would always advise keeping your car keys in a metal pouch or tin, however these do not always work so please check. If these do not work, you can try a Faraday Bag, this works the same. Keyless car thefts happen too often, this is when a device is used to trick the car into thinking that the key is close by, this then unlocks the car and starts the ignition.
    • CCTV is often a deterrent. It is worth having some CCTV covering your car if it is on your driveway, however please ensure your camera is following the CCTV camera rules. You can find these online.
    • If possible, have a tracker fitted on your vehicle.
    • Fit in car security locks. Built in steering locks aren’t always thief proof, often these can be broken.
    •  Invest in lighting if you keep your vehicle on your driveway, keep your vehicle well lit and visible if possible.

Thames Valley Police contineud: "As a neighbourhood team we do try our best to be as visible as we possibly can and try and prevent these incidents from happening.

"If you do see us please stop and say hello, we really appreciate it."
