Police issue warning as increased numbers of rogue traders appear in Milton Keynes

Officers have been made aware of an increase in rogue traders looking for work in the Tattenhoe and Shenley areas of Milton Keynes.

Rogue traders are any company, or individual, who offer services on your doorstep and have little/no identification. These traders may then proceed to scam their customers.

Thames Valley Police do not recommend buying doorstep sales unless they are Trading Standards Approved.

Trading Standards Approved businesses can be found by using the Buy With Confidence scheme, which is supported by Milton Keynes Council.

The Buy With Confidence scheme compiles a list of approved businesses ultimately reassuring potential customers.

All businesses listed on Buy With Confidence's website have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards to ensure that they operate in a legal, honest, and fair way.

You can search for Trading Standards Approved businesses by typing in the service you are looking for, or alternatively, if you have doubts about a business you can search them up on the website too.

Thames Valley Police will be patrolling the affected areas (Tattenhoe and Shenley) regularly.

If somebody knocks on your door and they become aggressive, you are encouraged to report it to 101 or 999 in an emergency. The incident must also be reported to Trading Standards.
