Police issue advice to all Milton Keynes residents on how to secure their home from burglars

As the Government roadmap for lifting lockdown continues, Thames Valley Police has issued crime reduction advice to all local residents to make life harder for criminals.

A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police has issued residents with the following advice to keep their homes safe:

    • Install a video doorbell or CCTV system.

    • Lock all front and rear doors at night and when you are out (if you have a UPVC door, remember to lift the handle and lock it with the key).

    • Keep all valuables and keys (including car keys), out of sight and out of reach of windows and letterboxes. Keep keyless entry fobs in a security pouch. (Always double check your vehicle is locked!)

    • Service/maintain your burglar alarm.

    • Use a timer switch on your lights and radio.

    • Secure access to the back garden. Are all of your gates and fences maintained and locked? Move bins away from side walls and fences.

    • Keep ladders and gardening tools locked away.

    • Cut back shrubs and hedges to aid visibility.

    • Ensure sheds and garages are fully secured.

    • If your home is being renovated, please ensure all equipment, building supplies and tools are secure and consider security marking them.

    • Consider joining a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, click here for more information.
