Plans for new drive-thru coffee shop in Milton Keynes town branded ‘ludicrous’ by residents

Olney could soon have a Costa drive-thru as plans have been submitted to the local authority.

The planning application sent to MK Council seeks permission for the construction of a new zero carbon shell building to accommodate a Costa Coffee shop and drive thru facility.

It could potentially provide up to 15 full time equivalent jobs once operational.

The plans also include a new access from Osier Way and 27 parking spaces.

Several objectors have raised concerns, “I think the idea of having a drive-thru Costa on that piece of land is absurd,” wrote one.

“I’d be really concerned with the volume of traffic attempting to enter and exit Osier Way, which would make it even more of a nightmare.

“There are many children [who] use the route, obviously to walk to school, [and] having more traffic…will encourage yet more cars parking on pavements.”

“The placement of this coffee shop is ludicrous,” wrote another. “It is already a busy junction trying to enter or leave Osier Way onto the A509.”

The plans see the site being built on a plot next to the proposed new Aldi supermarket and opposite Sainsbury's.

Olney is already home to one Costa Coffee outlet in the Market Place, just 7 minutes down the road to the new proposed site.

MKFM has contacted Costa Coffee for more information.
