Halloween will be a monstrously fun time at Pink Punters, with the inclusive venue celebrating not only the spookiest time of the year, but its own Silver Anniversary.
“It's the busiest night of the year for us, and it always has been,” said CSR manager Joe McMahon, who promised that the venue will be decked out in brilliant form.
“It is probably the best event in the country,” he told MKFM, “It takes a team of 10 people a whole week to build all of the areas and sets for the event – we'll have a graveyard, a witches house, dungeons, torture areas and themed backgrounds.”
For the past 25 years, Pink Punters has been a haven for the LGBT+ community, but the venue recognises that as the diversity legislation has improved, the need for specific 'safe' venues has diminished.
The venue sees itself not solely as a nightclub, but as a force to campaign for equality – something it has done far and wide. The Pink Punters bus has been used nationwide for campaigning, and Joe has met with two Prime Ministers as part of campaigning measures in the past.
“As the visiting LGBT+ community has become smaller, we recognised that we had to change or fold,” Joe said, “In London 58% of venues of this type closed between 2006 and 2016, because there is less of a need. There has been a great deal of progress which is brilliant,” he realises, “But our core values remain – respect and courtesy to all.
“We are still rooted in our foundations as a branded LGBT+ venue, and we are arguably the UK's most diverse venue, too,” he said.
The Halloween event will run from 9pm to 5am and you are invited to dance until dawn with the creatures of the night.
