Pink Punters leads significant Ready to Respond programme in Milton Keynes

A Pink Punters-led initiative is helping to arm Milton Keynes residents with the necessary skills to save lives, through its Ready to Respond programme.

The inclusive nightclub has teamed up with the CitizenAid charity for the scheme, which has 'five pillars'; to embolden individuals, families, communities, organisations and businesses to step in should the need arise.

"Blood loss is the number one preventable cause of death," said Pink Punters' Joe McMahon - who has close to four decades of operational experience as a firefighter and senior ambulance and helicopter paramedic in London. He has witnessed first-hand the devastating effects that being unprepared to act in an emergency can lead to.

"This is all about stopping life threatening bleeding - whether through an accident, a stabbing or health issue, Joe told MKFM.

"We're not trying to scaremonger, but we are facing increasing threats from knife crime and terrorism. The risk is getting greater and we need to be prepared.

April 29 is Stop the Bleed Day and schools are being recruited to engage pupils in a 30 minute course delivering key skills that could literally mean the difference between life and death.

The techniques employed are approved by senior professors, and all participants will be invited to learn the essential skills, at 'low cost or no cost'.

"Peoplel need to be alert, but not alarmed," Joe added, "That's a government message, and mine."
