People in Milton Keynes warned to beware of fake COVID-19 digital passport scam

There is a fake COVID-19 digital passport scam being circulated around Milton Keynes.

The scam was first spotted in Milton Keynes back in June and with Plan B restrictions kicking in again, MKFM is warning residents to be careful.

On Wednesday, the government announced Plan B restrictions would be kicking in due to the risks of the new Omicron variant.

From Wednesday 15th December, residents will need to show their NHS Covid Pass at nightclubs, some venues and large events to show full vaccination, a negative test result in the last 48 hours, or exemption.

Fraudsters are encouraging people to register for their documentation by clicking a link to visit a webpage, which then encourages them to pay a small "admin fee".

By filling out the form, the scammers are then given access to private details such as the victim's name and banking details.

Vaccination status is obtained for free through the NHS app, website or by calling the NHS on 119. There is no admin fee, so if anybody asks you to pay a sum of money then it is a scam.

Back in November, MK Trading standards said: "We are aware of fraudsters contacting people and making out that you have to pay for the NHS Covid Pass and the NHS App. These are free, please never give out any personal or financial details. Report scams to us on 0808 223 1133."
