People in Milton Keynes warned against using viral TikTok car de-icing hack

People have been advised against using a de-icing technique that has gone viral on social media.

The video, which has been seen by millions on social media platform TikTok, appears to show an easy way to de-ice your windscreen.

It shows a woman putting boiling water into a plastic carrier bag, and then wiping the bag over the glass. The frost immediately clears, which saves the need to spend time manually scraping it away.

Thousands of people have since shared their own attempts at this so-called hack, adding that it does in fact clear the ice within seconds.

However, experts are now warning that this could be "dangerous" and result in damage to the screen.

The AA says that around 2% of people use boiling water to remove ice on car windscreens, according to The Daily Star.

But using boiling water can actually cause the glass to crack.

"Glass expands quickly when hot or even warm water touches it," the AA says on their website, "But it'll contract quickly too as it cools down in the cold air.

"That flexing can make the glass crack even if you're using lukewarm water – especially if it had small chips or cracks already

The AA encourages drivers to use the traditional methods to de-ice their car, including using anti-freeze and an ice scraper.
