Three mile route planned for riders dressed in white.
Organisers of a cycle ride for peace through Milton Keynes today expect at least a hundred riders to join in on the ‘Peace & Unity’ journey.
They are appealing for local bike riders to join them this afternoon at Unity Place for the three-mile cycle ride through Central Milton Keynes and Campbell Park to the Peace Pagoda at Willen. Dressed in white and wearing white flags, the riders will be carrying a message of peace and unity.
It follows on from a similar mass cycle ride through the city last year. Before setting off today, to the drum beats of Panacea Samba band, the Mayor’s Cycling Awards will be presented to Network Rail, Santander and other businesses cycling in May’s ‘Love To Ride’ Bike Month.
Three primary schools will collect Bikeability Olympics Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies then, following a prayer from Kurshida Mirza of Truby’s Garden and MK Community Foundation, the cyclists will set off for Campbell Park.
“Last year’s Peace & Unity ride was amazing for bringing our community together, people of all faiths and backgrounds wearing white for peace,” said Ann Shrimpton of the Cycling Citizens MK alliance. “Our goal now is to encourage more women to cycle.”
Cyclists are welcome to join in the peace ride which starts at 5.30pm from Unity Place. More details: www.cyclingmk.org.
