'Overall infection numbers are low and risk is moderate' locally says Council Leader in first weekly video

The Leader of Milton Keynes Council Peter Marland has recorded the first of what will be a new weekly update on the coronavirus situation locally.

During the video, Mr Marland says that overall infection numbers are low in Milton Keynes and the risk, as nationally, remains moderate.

He says that due to the way that data is being reported to the Council, they will not be reporting any specific numbers.

The Council Leader also said that the way in which testing data is being reported is due to change soon, bringing together all types of testing - including Test and Trace.

This may lead to a statistical spike in cases as more data is being reported - but Mr Marland said this is not an issue which should cause any undue alarm.

Other key information includes confirmation that Milton Keynes is not at risk of a local lockdown at present - as reported by MKFM earlier this week.

Mr Marland also confirmed the outbreak at a local nursery where 23 children, staff and parents were tested positive for coronavirus

Swift action meant the outbreak was contained and everyone was offered a test. Mr Marland thanked the nursery and everyone involved for their work.

People were also asked to take care and respect others as bars and restaurants are planned to re-open in Milton Keynes tomorrow.

Finally, he also revealed more information about the Council's new coronavirus outbreak control plan.

The plan, which was released on Tuesday, sets out some of Milton Keynes Council’s areas for priority attention to prevent outbreaks, and the steps local people and organisations should take if there is an outbreak.

Another video update will be released next week.
