The Milton Keynes-born footballer opened up about his childhood trauma during an interview with Gary Neville.
Dele Alli, 27, appeared on Gary Neville's YouTube channel The Overlap, where he opened up about his childhood trauma.
The ex-England footballer told Neville how his childhood trauma played a part in his decision to enter a rehab facility in recent months.
An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Dele Alli has shown great courage in revealing the abuse he suffered in his childhood. Speaking out on sexual abuse whenever it happened can be very daunting with victims/survivors sometimes feeling guilt, shame or confusion.”
“The impact of child sexual abuse can be devastating, and can continue into adulthood. It’s crucial that the safety and protection of all children remains a clear priority for all those in positions of authority.”
“We hope that Dele Alli is receiving the support he needs and that his bravery in speaking out will encourage others who are in a similar position to do the same and will reassure them that they are not alone and there are people here to support them.”
MK Dons Chairman Pete Winkelman added: "We have always been so proud of Dele, none more so than now, seeing him show tremendous bravery to speak publicly on the matter of his mental health.
"Dele will always have the love and support of everyone associated with MK Dons."
