Health Secretary confirms death of coronavirus patient at Milton Keynes Hospital

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said that a patient with coronavirus died at Milton Keynes University Hospital today.

In an interview with ITV, Mr Hancock said: "Very sorry to hear the news of a second death here in the UK, of somebody with coronavirus. Again, it was somebody who was older and had underlying health conditions."

"My condolences go out to his family and loved ones."

MKFM is yet to be given any statement from Public Health England or Milton Keynes University Hospital regarding the case.

Trusted sources say patients who were on the same ward have been isolated and a deep clean of the area has taken place.

According to the sources, an extensive "contact tracing" exercise is underway to trace anyone who might have had close (face-to-face) contact with the patient. Some staff have been asked to self isolate for 14 days.

All hospital services are still running as normal including inpatient and outpatient services, maternity services and planned operations.
