NHS waiting lists down 11% in Milton Keynes since General Election

Waiting lists nationally down 260,000 since July last year

New analysis reveals NHS waiting lists at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have fallen by nearly 4000 since the General Election - with waiting lists nationally down 260,000 since July last year.

This comes following Labour’s commitment to get our NHS back on its feet, through much needed reform and additional funding. Since coming into Government, Labour has not only delivered the two million additional appointments promised, but has now delivered over three and a half million.

In the Budget, the Labour Government invested an extra £26 billion in health and care, and the Spending Review brought record levels of investment to get the NHS back on its feet and fit for the future. Labour has also recruited over 1,700 more GPs – and agreed a GP contract for the first time since the pandemic.

Last week, the Labour Government published its 10 year plan to make our health service fit for the future, built around three big shifts - from hospital to community, from analogue to digital, and from sickness to prevention.

Welcoming the figures today, Chris Curtis, Labour MP for Milton Keynes North said “We know there is a long way to go, but NHS waiting lists falling makes a real impact on people’s lives here in our city. When I became an MP, I said that getting the NHS back on its feet locally was my number one priority, and we are making progress to achieve that.”

Emily Darlington, Labour MP for Milton Keynes Central, added “These figures are welcome news for the thousands of families in Milton Keynes who have spent years suffering under the broken NHS left by the Conservatives. From bringing waiting lists down, to securing full funding for a new Women and Children’s Hospital in our city, we are working hard to improve our NHS.”

Callum Anderson, Labour MP for Buckingham & Bletchley, concluded “There are no quick fixes for the mess that our NHS was left in. But these promising figures are a testament to a Labour Government committed to improving things, and, above all, a team of hugely hardworking and dedicated NHS staff. To them all, I say, thank you.”
