New sponsor for flipping Milton Keynes event

Turf business rolls out support for Pancake Race.

An historic local street race has welcomed a new sponsor for its 2026 event.

The famous Olney Pancake Race, which takes place every year in the ancient Milton Keynes market town, has been backed by George Davies Turf & Stone, an established local business. They will sponsor the event’s main marquee.

The company joins other backers Bonne Maman, Kingsley Healthcare, Blackstone, and Whitworth Bros Ltd in 2026. Next year’s race, which takes place on Shrove Tuesday, 17th February, follows a great tradition. The event is said to have been run every year since 1948 – apart from the Covid year of 2021.

“Over the last 25 years we have made so many friends and supported many local events and to be asked to help with the Pancake Race was truly an honour,” said George Davies.

“I have watched and supported for many years as well as cheered on friends taking part, and I love the buzz it brings to the town. I want to help the race to continue.”

The legendary contest, which first took place in 1445, is open to women who live or work in Olney. Entries open in December. Children’s races are run before the main event at 11.55pm which is followed by a Shriving Service in the local church.
