New mental health group to start in Milton Keynes

This Sunday 8th July, a local mental health worker begins Milton Keynes Mental Health Mates Walk at Willen Lake.

Local child and adolescent mental health service worker, Danielle Green, is starting a new mental health group in Milton Keynes in the hope of reaching out to as many people as possible.

The group is a peer led support group that will be held on the second Sunday of every month, meeting outside the Lakeside restaurant at Willen Lake at 11am. The first meet is this Sunday 8th July.

The group is open to anyone affected by mental illness and is designed to be a safe place for people of all ages to walk and talk without fear of judgement. Mental health can be very isolating and without support it can feel overwhelming. The purpose of the group is to help people to feel less alone with their battle.

It is not necessary to sign up. Just arrive at the meeting point on the day and Danielle will be holding a blue balloon to let people know they are in the right place. Family members and friends are also welcome to support.

Danielle says, “I work in mental health services across the whole of Buckinghamshire and I am so passionate about mental health. Mental Health Mates is a safe place to walk and talk without the fear of judgement.”

She continues, “it's known that walking and talking can be relaxing as well as having a great impact on mental health so the group will start with a slow walk around Willen lake followed by a relaxing stop in the restaurant for tea and coffee.”
