Works from cross-section of artists on display until next year.
A new exhibition that has just launched in Milton Keynes brings together a diverse group of international artists from painting, drawing, photography and film.
The expo, called ‘To Improvise A Mountain’ has been put together by artist, writer and poet Lynette Yiadom-Boakye who is showing several of her own works along with those of her favourite artists. The show is expected to remain at MK Gallery until the end of January 2026.
“Lynette has selected a group of artists and photographers she admires,” said Anthony Spira, Director, MK Gallery. “And there are some portraits of her own. These are imaginary portraits, they’re not of real people. They are drawn from her memory or perhaps something she has seen on the internet.”
Visitors will also notice that the pictures have accompanying labels with very little information on them. It’s because Lynette wants people look at the art and the images and not spend time reading the details.
“She thinks that people read the information labels for too long and don’t look enough at the pictures,” said Anthony Spira.
“So Lynette said, ‘we are not going to tell them what to think’. You have to make your own mind up and if you leave the gallery with questions, that’s fine.”
The exhibition was organised with the help of the Hayward Gallery in London. It’s the third of three shows hosted this year by MK Gallery.
To Improvise A Mountain is at MK Gallery, Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes until 25th January, 2026. More details: www.mkgallery.org.
