The UK’s biggest Muslim youth organisation, The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association UK (AMYA), is preparing for its annual New Year’s Day Street cleaning initiative in Milton Keynes.
The clean-up reaffims its long-standing commitment to community service and environmental responsibility.
Armed with litter pickers, bin bags and high-visibility jackets, volunteers will work in teams to help give new city neighbourhoods a clean start to the year.
The initiative reflects a core Islamic principle that cleanliness and care for one’s surroundings are integral parts of faith, as well as a wider sense of responsibility towards society.
Nationwide, more than 2,000 AMYA volunteers will rise early for pre-dawn prayers before heading out to clean streets, parks and public spaces in over 75 locations nationwide.
“New Year’s Day is a powerful moment to reflect on how we want to begin the year," said Talha Niazi who is the Head of Community Service for AMYA UK, “For us, that means serving the communities we live in. This is all about quietly doing what we believe is right and setting a positive tone for the year ahead.”
The initiative is inspired by the guidance of the worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who consistently encourages young people to become active and constructive members of the societies in which they live.
AMYA hopes the initiative will not only improve local environments but also help bring communities together at a time when public discourse can feel increasingly divided.
Through practical action, the volunteers aim to demonstrate that service to one’s country and neighbours is a shared value that transcends background or belief.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association extends an invitation to new city residents and community members to join the clean-up efforts and take part in creating cleaner, healthier neighbourhoods for everyone.
