MPs welcome Milton Keynes children ‘best start’ funding

Family centres maintained across the city.

Milton Keynes’ three MPs have welcomed news that the City Council will receive additional funding this financial year to help prepare for the roll-out of the Government’s ‘Best Start Family Service’ in 2026.

Half a million more children across the UK will benefit from the roll out of new ‘Best Start Family Hubs’ across every local authority. That includes Milton Keynes where the council has maintained 10 popular family centres across the city, providing advice including managing money, child development and school readiness, as well as hosting baby groups, play sessions and after school clubs.

Support will be available for the babies, children and families who will benefit the most, including those from lower-income families and with additional vulnerabilities. The centres will also provide coffee mornings, community larders, and support for those hoping to return to work.

“I am so excited about the new ‘Best Start’ service, which will continue that legacy and drive attainment in Milton Keynes and the country,” said Callum Anderson, MP for Buckingham & Bletchley.

“This new funding is a fantastic announcement that will allow the local authority to give more high-quality support to parents and carers and their children,” added Emily Darlington, MP for Milton Keynes Central.

“We believe that children should be given the support and opportunities to succeed from the earliest stages in life,” said Chris Curtis, MP for Milton Keynes North. “I welcome the Government’s mission to ensure more children start school ready and able to learn and am proud that we are working locally and nationally to achieve that.”
