MK and Buckingham MPs say an 'alternative solution' is needed as proposed plans could see major road built over green space in Milton Keynes.
The plans for Shenley Park, adjacent to Kingsmead and Tattenhoe Park, includes over 1,200 homes alongside a new mixed-use local centre, a primary school, care and sports facilities, and green and blue infrastructure is included within the proposals.
The development will be the second of those on Buckinghamshire Council’s boundaries to use Milton Keynes' infrastructure, following Salden Chase, and plans currently include creating points of access to the new neighbourhood with an extension to the H6 Childs Way and A421.
Councillors and residents have been campaigning against the proposed road plans, which would see a green space in Kingsmead built over as part of the extension.
Yesterday, Conservative Tattenhoe ward Councillor Shazna Muzammil was joined by MP for Milton Keynes South Iain Stewart and Buckingham MP Greg Smith on a visit to the green space which is at risk.
Both MPs said they stand with the local ward councillors in their fight to find an alternative solution for the new development entry points.
"Kingsmead Green is not just a piece of land; it's the very essence of our resident community. Numerous events that bring us all together from celebrating the Queen's jubilee to our kids playing safely, this green space holds countless cherished memories," a statement from the Conservative ward councillors explained.
"We also want to raise awareness that this development comes on top of other expansions like Salden Chase, which will only worsen congestion in Milton Keynes without adequate plans for additional infrastructure. Moreover, building homes facing grid roads goes against established policy.
"We are determined not to lose any more green spaces, as they are crucial for both our physical and mental well-being.
"We are actively engaging with developers and all stakeholders, holding meetings to ensure our residents voices are heard throughout this process. We will also keep sharing updates we receive from our MPs with regards to this.
"As we continue our fight, we promise to keep you informed every step of the way. Your support is vital to safeguard the future of Oxley Park and Kingsmead for generations to come."
Local councillors have previously fought the plans for a road to be built on the green space, saying it is through the 'heartland of a community area that is used by many of the residents close by and beyond'.
Over 1,265 homes would be delivered by 2033 according to the plans, with a minimum of 25% affordable housing.
Crest Nicholson say there will be an extension to Tattenhoe Valley Park which will see new play areas added to the route which extends down to Furzton Lake.
