MP Callum Anderson is calling for progress on the development of a new eastern entrance to Bletchley station.
Bletchley Station is a vital piece of infrastructure that will unlock investment, improve accessibility, and support the long-term regeneration of the town centre, says MP Callum Anderson, who is calling for progress on the development of a new eastern entrance to the station.
Yesterday at Transport Questions, Heidi Alexander, Secretary of State for Transport, confirmed that she and Lord Hendy, Minister for Rail, will meet with Callum, MP for Buckingham and Bletchley, to discuss delivering a modern gateway for local people and for visitors to access Bletchley Park.
Bletchley Station currently turns its back on the town centre, with rail passengers arriving into the area facing a long, indirect route to reach the high street or connect with buses - through an underpass, across a roundabout, and down a narrow walkway.
“We need to make it easier for people to choose Bletchley - whether they’re visiting, investing, or setting up a business,” Callum said, “The eastern entrance will help us do that by linking the station directly to the heart of the town.”
A £22 million Town Deal is already beginning to build momentum, with improvements to public spaces and transport infrastructure underway. But Callum says that further investment is needed to fully capitalise on the arrival of East West Rail, which will make Bletchley one of the UK’s best-connected towns.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” he said, “With the right infrastructure in place, Bletchley can build on its role as a hub for innovation, growth and opportunity - delivering even more for the region and for the people who live here.”
As Chair of the Bletchley Investment Taskforce, Callum is working with partners including MK Dons, Bletchley Park Trust, and Chiltern Railways to champion the eastern entrance as a priority project.
“I’m calling on government departments, transport authorities and private sector partners to back the eastern entrance and help us deliver a step change for Bletchley’s future,” Callum added.
