Motorists ignoring new 40mph limit on V10

A recent covert operation by the police has shown that motorists are continuing to ignore the 40mph speed limit along the V10 between the H9 and H10.

During two rush hour periods, officers recorded an average of 3 out of 10 vehicles travelling above the 40mph limit.

In August Milton Keynes Council introduced a new crossing point along this section of road to enable pedestrians including pupils to the nearby schools to cross safely. Local residents are still getting used to this new crossing point and it is feared that it may be underused if the speed of vehicles is too high along this road.

Sgt Chris Appleby, Roads Safety Officer, Thames Valley Police said: “Speeding is one of the Fatal 4 and causes deaths every year on our roads. Exceeding the speed limit and causing a fatal crash is devastating to the victims and their families, while the offending driver, if found guilty, can be sentenced to years of imprisonment”

    “The message is simple – don’t speed - #ItsNotWorthTheRisk.”

Cllr Liz Gifford, Cabinet Member for Place including Transport said “Speed limits are in place for a reason – to keep people safe, both pedestrians and motorists.”

“We put this crossing in place with a 40mph speed limit so that people have a safe place to cross the road – breaking the speed limit on this section of road is putting lives at risk”
