MKFM team member raises vital funds and awareness for Milton Keynes charity

Jo Ronan, MKFM's Head of Commercial Partnerships, is taking part in the MK Rocket 5K on Sunday 5th May to raise money for Medical Detection Dogs.

MKFM has been supporting Medical Detection Dogs for several years, and Jo has grown so passionately towards their fight against cancer and other life-threatening diseases, that she wants to help in spreading awareness and raising some money.

Jo says, “I am so honoured to be an official ambassador for Medical Detection Dogs, to raise awareness and money. Everything the charity does is amazing and since going to an open day and really seeing these dogs in action, I have been touched so much that I really want to get behind them. I work with over 800 businesses a year and my goal is to share knowledge about this charity that is also based here in Milton Keynes”.

Medical Detection Dogs train dogs to detect the odour of human disease with the aim of developing faster, more efficient and less invasive diagnostics that lead to better patient outcomes.

MDD are at the forefront of the research into the fight against cancer and other life-threatening diseases, including Parkinson’s disease and bacterial infections. Their Bio Detection Dogs are trained to find the odour of those diseases in samples such as urine, breath and sweat and our work has the potential to benefit millions.

MDD already apply what they know about the science of canine olfaction to benefit people by training Medical Alert Assistance Dogs to detect minute changes in an individual’s personal odour triggered by their disease and alert them to an impending medical event, helping them manage complex, life-threatening medical conditions and improving their quality of life.

They take the welfare of our Medical Detection Dogs extremely seriously. From the moment they come to the Medical Detection centre as puppies, they ensure the highest standards of care for their dogs. They have a strict no kennel policy and all our dogs live in the homes of our staff or fantastic local volunteers where they are loved and cared for as part of the family.

Charlotte, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Medical Detection says, "We have been working with the team at MKFM for a while now, and we are absolutely delighted that we have inspired Jo to become an Ambassador. We know that she will be the perfect person to raise awareness for our incredible charity, and we will be right by her side, putting our best paw forward to support her."
