MKFM Review: Come From Away, Milton Keynes Theatre

Carly could not wait to return to Milton Keynes Theatre last night (26/11) to see the highly-anticipated Come From Away and here is her full review...

    The experience

Wow what a show! My Boyfriend and I went along to see Come From Away last night not knowing what to expect and we were blown away! I was honestly mesmerized by the story that was unfolding on stage but also left thinking on the way home of all of the stories from 9/11 that have been left untold.

Straight away I thought what a shame that Jo wasn't doing the review as the show is opened by a host of Irish accents which would have made her feel right at home. This was a theme which ran throughout this show making total strangers feel at home, showing how a community came together to help those in need.

For those that haven't heard of Come From Away it's a story of a plane that was diverted during the 9/11 terrorist attacks to Gander airport on a small island. It follows the individual stories of the passengers deep diving into their different religions and dietary requirements and how the residents of Newfoundland did their very best to accommodate them.

Watching Janice, played by Natasha J. Barnes, a local news reporter made me smile imagining how MKFM would be at the centre of something like this. She was new to her role and full of excitement probing people to get a story. The local Mayor, played by Nicholas Pound, was at the centre of the action as you'd expect but made me laugh when he had to keep reiterating that things were "Off the record".

I think you can always judge a show on how the audience reacts at the end, sometimes there are a few that stand, sometimes you watch a whole row stand but at the end of this show the entire theatre flew to their feet without hesitation to give the cast and then the band the recognition they deserved.

Amazingly there was no interval which although it caused a huge queue at the ladies beforehand it made for a lovely early finish!

I whole heartedly recommend that you get along to Milton Keynes Theatre to catch this wonderful show!

    The story

Experience the joyous story and soaring music as spirited locals and global passengers come together and forge friendships that will stay with them forever. The first female American Airlines captain, the quick-thinking town mayor, the mother of a New York firefighter and the eager local news reporter are among the many real characters caught at the start of the moment that changed the course of history, and whose stories became a true celebration of hope, humanity, and unity. The international hit musical has celebrated record-breaking engagements in the West End, on Broadway, in Canada, throughout Australia, and on a 60-city North American Tour.
