MK Libraries take to the road in search of friends and volunteers

Library staff will be on the road seeking out anyone who would like to help support their local library on the 15 and 16 November.

The roadshows are being held at four of the Milton Keynes Libraries and give people the chance to speak to member of staff about becoming a volunteer or a Friend.

Volunteers can be involved in their library as much or as little as they like, every contribution is valuable and very much appreciated. MK Libraries tries to match the volunteer’s strengths and experience to the tasks on offer - everything from helping customers set up email accounts to selecting books for our homebound readers.

Friends Groups provide an important contribution to support and maintain awareness of libraries in the local community. Friends helps by complementing and arranging activities and events in libraries, sponsorships, supporting volunteers and helping in many other ways.

The aim of the Roadshow is to increase the number of volunteers throughout the library service to support paid staff and enhance Milton Keynes Libraries.

There are currently over 70 volunteers helping with activities like shelving, greeting customers, IT help and home delivery services. We also have two lively Friends Groups - at Stony Stratford Library (FoSSL) and Olney Library (FoLiO) - but more are always welcome.

    The roadshows will be held:

Tuesday, 15 November - Wolverton Library from 10-12 noon and Newport Pagnell Library from 1-4pm.

Wednesday, 16 November - Kingston Library from 10-12 noon and Westcroft Library from 2-4pm.

If you would like to know more, visit one of the roadshows, go to the library website (www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/libraries) or email garry.mitchell@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
