Former player comes back to club to join training staff.
Former MK Dons midfielder Darren Potter has returned to Stadium MK to become the club’s new First Team Coach.
A Dons regular for six years, Potter made more than 260 appearances for the club between 2011 and 2017 and was in the team that secured promotion to the Championship in 2015.
The former Liverpool, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday player has also appeared for current Dons boss Paul Warne’s Rotherham United. He also had stints at Tranmere Rovers and Altrincham before retiring from playing and taking up coaching. He has most recently been the coach of Stoke City’s U18s squad.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” said 40-year-old Potter. “I’m quite familiar with the surroundings and the facilities already, which always helps.
“I just can’t wait to meet all the players in pre-season and get straight to work. Being here as a player, I understand and share the ambition this club has, there’s so much potential here, and I’m excited to be part of that again, just in a different capacity this time.”
“I’m extremely happy to welcome Darren as a part of our coaching staff,” said Paul Warne. “His skills and attributes as a player were remarkable even at 32 years old. ‘Pottsy’ shares my views and approach to the game, and he will be a crucial component to our coaching team.”
Meanwhile, Dons legend Dean Lewington has said he will be staying at Stadium Mk in a new role coaching and developing the club’s young players in their transition to senior football.
He confirmed at a recent ‘Evening with Dean Lewington’ event that he has accepted a position as an Individual Development Coach. The role will draw on his own 949 competitive game experience as he looks to study and gain UEFA A Licence coaching qualifications with MK Dons Development Squad.
