Milton Keynes woman appears on The One Show for forming support group during the pandemic

Lucy Fox was congratulated for her efforts in helping the community as she formed a community support group for those struggling during the pandemic.

On Thursday (04/02), Lucy received a message of thanks from the hosts of The One Show after she was surprised in her own home with the help of her son, who secretly placed cameras around the house.

One of the presenters, Alex Jones, offered her thanks to Lucy as she said: "We heard all about the work you have done setting up the Milton Keynes Coronavirus Community Support Group and keeping the network going for so long, so Lucy you deserve a big thank you."

Lucy was then presented with numerous messages of thanks from those the group had helped during the pandemic.

Lucy created the Milton Keynes Coronavirus Community Support Group last March with the promise that no one should suffer during isolation. The group's primary purpose is to support those that are self-isolating and need assistance, as many vulnerable people have no one during these trying times.

On their website, more information is given about the group and its mission. Their homepage reads: "As the country begins to weather the outbreak of Coronavirus, many at-risk individuals in our community, some with underlying health conditions, are being forced to self-isolate for their own safety.

"Our support group was created to connect volunteers in each part of Milton Keynes with local people who need help with small practical tasks and have no-one else to turn to.

"So if you need help during this crisis or would like to offer assistance to someone in need, get in touch today!"

From the most basic tasks such as shopping for essential items or picking up medicine, the ever-growing army of volunteers is happy to help those in need. The group has proven to be a vital tool for local elderly and vulnerable residents to receive the items they need without ever having to leave their homes - allowing them to stay safe.

The group now has over 700 volunteers across the city and it continues to grow each day, having helped well over 1000 people in the last year. If you would like to become a volunteer or you require help, you can access the support group's website by clicking here.
