Milton Keynes University Hospital trials use of drones to transport medical supplies across hospital site

Drones are being tested on the Milton Keynes University Hospital site as transport for medical supplies.

Milton Keynes University Hospital is today testing the use of drones as a mode of transport for medical supplies on the site.

Working with manufacturing experts Intelsius and drone specialists Herotech8, the pilot will be taking place over two days. Blood samples are among those that will be transferred autonomously across the site, using dedicated drone stations.

The dedicated drone stations are located above the Pathology Unit and at the Saxon Clinic.

The INMED project has seen colleagues from MK Hospital and externally involved and the hospital hopes to understand the feasibility of fast, safe and reliable short-range medical transportation by drone through the pilot.

Testing will be taking place today (20/10) between 1pm and 5pm and tomorrow (21/10) between 10am and 3pm.

Trials have already taken place across the country as hospitals hope to develop greener and faster transport methods.

Earlier this year, the NHS announced trials which would see drones deliver life-saving chemotherapy drugs within half an hour, from a hospital in Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight.
