Milton Keynes town shows real petal power with more award success

Judges from the Britain in Bloom competition have visited Stony Stratford.

The town is now keeping fingers crossed that they have done enough to make their mark in this year's competition.

“We all felt that their visit went really well!” said Judy Deveson, chairperson with Stony Stratford in Bloom, the community project that makes the town 'even more beautiful' through its floral and greenery work.

Having won the Small Town Trophy, and with Gold last year in the Thames and Chilterns Regional Competition, Stony in Bloom was nominated by the region to represent them in the National Finals

It's a big deal, and makes all of those hours spent digging and planting worthwhile. Stony in Bloom are in the Small Town category, against six other competitors in the country. The winners will be revealed on October 31.

“They were full of compliments for all that they saw. Stony in Bloom volunteers had been on their knees, weeding, pruning and cleaning for hours!' Judy said.

“I have to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who played their part in the run-up, and on the day itself.”

Stony Stratford really is looking blooming great, and the hard work is already being rewarded – the town has just won the Michaelis Cup, which is the Best Kept Town Category in the Bucks Best Kept Village Competition, organised by Buckinghamshire Council.

“We're really thrilled by this result. It shows what a community working together can do and makes us very proud of our town,” Judy added.
