Kol Nidre is the time when Jews across the world think about how they can improve their own lives and help others. For generations, the Kol Nidre Appeal has raised money for charities at home and abroad.
This year, the MK Synagogue has chosen to donate to Trubys Tea Room – an interfaith community café run by Muslim women in Milton Keynes. They have raised £585. It is run by Kurshida Mirza, who in 2020 received a British Empire Medal (BEM) in recognition of her work.
Lou Tribus, Co-Chair of the Milton Keynes and District Reform Synagogue, said: "We chose Trubys Tea Rooms as one of our Kol Nidre charities in recognition of Trubys charitable work which has benefitted people locally, nationally and internationally regardless of faith or ethnicity. On Kol Nidre, through our collective prayers and charitable donations, we have the power to change lives."
Kurshida Mirza from Trubys Tea Room added: "At Trubys, we work hard to build positive cross-community relationships by promoting dialogue and integration between the Muslim and wider non-muslim communities within Milton Keynes. We welcome this contribution from the Jewish community in MK and are grateful for their support.”
