Milton Keynes station brought to life in colour

Nigerian-inspired artwork unveiled at rail pedestrian area.

Residents and dignitaries watched yesterday as a colourful artwork was unveiled on Milton Keynes’ Station Square.

Walk With Your Dreams, designed by British Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori MBE, was revealed as part of an afternoon of music, poetry, dance and art, attended by Milton Keynes Mayor James Lancaster and MK Councillor Shanika Mahendran.

Commissioned by Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) and the City Council, Walk With Your Dreams fills Station Square with striking colours and patterns inspired by Nigerian textiles and by the Milton Keynes community.

Integrated into the flooring, the installation will help guide pedestrians towards the city centre as well as creating a more welcoming public space at the busy city arrival point.

The artwork is complemented by a new planting scheme with species selected for their beauty, biodiversity and sustainability

“This is much more than a stunning piece of art, it’s a real celebration of our city’s creativity and diversity,” said Shanika Mahendran, Cabinet Member for Planning and Placemaking.

“Station Square is the gateway to our city and this installation welcomes everyone with colour, culture and inspiration.”
