Something truly magical took place at Coal Drops Yard on Saturday as over 300 singers from across the UK united for a surprise flash-mob to kick off fundraising for BBC’s Children in Need.
Led by The Collaboration Choir, the nationwide adult pop choir, the feel-good event delivered two high-energy sets of contemporary pop hits and reimagined classics, filling Coal Drops Yard with music, fun, and community spirit.
The Collaboration Choir performed at 12pm and 3pm, with the 3pm set featuring a rendition of the iconic ‘Our House’, delighting both performers and the audience.
Suggs said: "Well I never, I heard about 300 people all singing ‘Our House’ together, literally in the middle of the street. You couldn’t make it up! The Collaboration Choir were great and all for Children in Need so dig deep and support"
Music, Community, and Charity
What started as a single local choir has grown into a nationwide network of 16 choirs with over 800 members, raising over £40,000 for charity through collaborative singing experiences.
Following on from their flash-mob performance, over the course of this week (10 - 14 Nov), the Choir has been going all out for Children in Need with:
-
Hundreds of singers donning creative Children in Need outfits to raise funds
-
Community bake sales featuring homemade treats at all sixteen choir branches
-
Performances aimed at raising as much as possible for young lives across the UK
The Collaboration Choir Founder, Carrie Rawlings said: "Music is the great equaliser. It doesn’t care about your job title, your background, or whether you think you’ve got ‘talent’. It simply asks you to show up, be present, and contribute your unique voice to something bigger than yourself. On Saturday, hundreds of singers, volunteers, and supporters came together for exactly that – and it was incredible. Since founding The Collaboration Choir, our singers have raised over £40,000 for good causes and we hope our efforts this week will help nurture and support young lives across the UK through Children in Need."
