The Milton Keynes Scout District has received a donation to help its much-needed campsite renovation.
The Quarries Campsite in Cosgrove is a key venue for local scout groups of all ages, who use the area for outdoor activities such as archery, orienteering and shooting.
It has been closed during the pandemic, and during this time volunteers have been making key upgrades. Electricity has been installed at the site, while general maintenance tasks such as painting and cleaning have also been carried out.
And the local scout groups have received a £250 donation from a local housebuilder, Davidsons Homes, to improve the archery range.
The money will go towards the cost of replacing the front wall and entrance to the campsite’s archery range, enabling the facility to safely reopen once lockdown restrictions are eased.
Milton Keynes Scout District was one of two organisations nominated to receive a donation by residents in Hanslope, where Davidsons Homes is currently building at The Wheatfields development.
The housebuilder invited villagers, through its Hanslope Herald magazine, to put forward good causes worthy of support.
Stuart Bailey, District Commissioner for Milton Keynes Scout District, said: “Like many charities, we’ve been hit hard by the pandemic, as we had to make the difficult decision of closing the campsite to all user groups. This in turn has taken a toll on the bookings, reducing our cash flow to use on essential maintenance work.
“We would like to say a big thank you to Davidsons Homes for their kind donation, which will help us make our site fun and safe again.
“It will make a huge difference to our archery range, allowing us to reopen it in a safe and secure way. It is especially appreciated because the site is maintained solely by volunteers who donate their own time.
“The campsite is also open to non-scouting groups, who have their own rules and procedures, meaning this money will help to support the wider community.”
