Milton Keynes school undergoes ‘considerable improvement’

Ofsted reports pupils at Sir Herbert Leon Academy are ‘learning well’.

Pupils, staff and the wider community at Sir Herbert Leon Academy, in Bletchley, are delighted with their latest Ofsted report, which highlights ‘how much the school has improved’.

Ofsted no longer issues a single grading to schools, however the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management are all graded as ‘good’, a huge improvement since the school’s last inspection.

Pupils recognise the improvements, which was noted by inspectors, as students explained how ‘the culture has completely changed’ and they are ‘expected to achieve the best they can’.

Ofsted inspectors noted the ‘considerable work to improve the school’s curriculum’ which is ‘broad and ambitious’, meaning that pupils are ‘learning well’, and ‘achieving better’ than current published examination data suggests.

Teachers at Sir Herbert Leon Academy have 'secure' subject knowledge, explain new ideas clearly and support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), said the report.

“We welcome Ofsted’s recognition of the huge progress that has been made at the school,” said Damian McGeehin, Associate Principal. “We are very pleased that the inspectors judged us ‘good’ in all areas. We look forward to building on this report with the ambition to achieve even greater success in the future.”
