Milton Keynes Safety Centre highlights need for lifesaving railway education

    The Safety Centre in Milton Keynes is stressing the need for lifesaving railway education following the death of a teen in Portsmouth.

    The death of 16-year-old Jake Norman who recently died on the railway in Portsmouth highlights the need for the Safety Centre’s lifesaving railway safety education. Whilst the British Transport Police are still working to establish the circumstances of Jake’s death and why he was accessing the railway line, Jake’s family have said they would like to raise awareness of the dangers of the railway tracks through the tragic incident.

    The Safety Centre, in Milton Keynes, is the world’s first safety education charity, teaching lifesaving learning to children, young people and adults to create safe, flourishing communities.

    The charity focuses on early intervention and prevention safety education, teaching the skills needed to be safe in daily life. 

    Maya Joseph-Hussain Chief Executive at the Safety Centre said, "We were saddened to hear of the tragic death of Jake Norman and our thoughts are with his family, friends and community at this difficult time. Jake’s death emphasises the importance of our railway safety education work here at the Safety Centre.

    "Our immersive education centre Hazard Alley teaches visitors about the dangers you come across when using the railways and how you can use the railways safely. This education work is essential to keep our communities safe as they go about their daily life, today and in the future."

    The Safety Centre delivers immersive safety education at their education centre Hazard Alley for children, young people and adults across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, North London, Milton Keynes and beyond.

    Their education outreach team also deliver lifesaving safety education into schools across the region on a range of safety topics, delivered in an age appropriate, sensitive way.
