Dining boss starts fund to send to naturalist and broadcaster.
A Milton Keynes restaurant owner has set up a fund in honour of internationally renowned environmentalist Sir David Attenborough.
Jonathan Muston, who runs Whaddon-based woodland restaurant WYLD, says he wants to gift Sir David with a present to mark his 99th birthday, which was last week. And he would love the fund to become a global show of support for the man he calls a ‘hero of humanity and a bastion of hope for the natural world’.
Jonathan’s restaurant supports the natural world and uses only environmentally produced ingredients and meat, cooking it on log fires and serving it in an open woodland dining area.
He said he wanted to start the fund for Sir David this year because it ‘felt like a lovely thing to do to give recognition for the fantastic work that he does’.
Jonathan wrote to Sir David this year about his good work for the planet and was pleased and surprised to receive a reply from the international broadcaster.
“He’s somebody that I hold in very high regard,” said Jonathan. “I think his with knowledge and understanding of the natural world and what is coming with climate change and the fragility of the eco-system, he talks with great urgency about this, and there are many people who could do with listening to what he’s saying.”
The GoFundMe page has already reached nearly £400 of a £1000 target. All funds raised will be donated to conservation charities of Sir David's choice.
“A voice of wisdom, wonder and urgent truth – Sir David has spent nearly a century opening our eyes to the beauty and fragility of the natural world,” said Jonathan.
“Wouldn't it be amazing if this became a global thank you. A collective birthday card to let him know that there is an army of people out there that share his views. Instead of candles and cards, let’s give something bigger to Sir David: a gift to the Earth in his honour.”
