Milton Keynes residents to receive a test emergency alert next week

Across the UK, some mobile phone networks will be testing the government's emergency alert system between 1pm and 2pm next Tuesday (22/06).

The new emergency alert system is a new service from the government and is expected to launch later this summer.

Locals are asked not to be alarmed as a routine test will be carried out next week. If you have an Android device, there’s a small chance that when you get a test alert your device may make a loud siren-like sound.

The test alert itself will say: "This is a mobile network operator test of the Emergency Alerts service. You do not need to take any action. To find out more, search for gov.uk/alerts."

The alert system will be used in a number of scenarios such as during crises like serious flooding or fires.

Those who wish to opt out of the system should be aware that only some alerts can be disabled, as the most important ones will still be received.
