Milton Keynes school attracts national media attention after telling children to wear a mask or face shield to school

A primary school in Milton Keynes has attracted media attention after it said that children will be required to wear a mask or face shield to school from September.

The Premier Academy in Bletchley is set to introduce the rule for pupils and staff returning in the new academic year.

A newsletter was sent to parents detailing the changes, which state that "all staff, children, parents, carers and visitors must don a mask when on site or they will not be allowed access."

"Face coverings are not acceptable. We recommend the N95 or surgical masks."

They will be allowed to remove the mask once inside their classroom 'bubble' and instead wear a school-provided face shield.

Children in Reception would not be required to wear a mask, but the policy would apply to other year groups beyond that.

Chief Executive at the school Warren Harrison has since spoken to the MK Citizen and said that a parental survey said that only 70% of parents were intending to send their child back in the new term.

Mr Harrison also said that the implementation of staggered arrival and finish times would be difficult due to the large number of children at the school with siblings at the school.

The story has since attracted national media attention with The Sun newspaper also running the story today as well as the Mirror.
