Milton Keynes postmaster leaving after 40 years

Last post for Adrian as PO counter closes too.

A popular Milton Keynes postmaster is stepping down from his community role after 40 years.

Adrian Watts is leaving his position tomorrow at Coffee Hall Post Office, a job he took up in 1985. He has already received cards, presents and visits from local people to thank him for all that he has done for their community over the last four decades.

Adrian’s first Post Office job was in Fenny Stratford in 1981, but he transferred to Coffee Hall four years later. At that time the branch was operated by Misslebrook & Weston store. Two years later that company franchised the Post Office counter and Adrian became the postmaster.

“The best thing about being a postmaster is the people that you meet,” said Adrian. “People that first came in as kids when I started, now have grandchildren. I know everyone well. We have had a lot of fun. I know the customers well and we have been able to joke with each other.

“I have had so many people popping in with cards and gifts and to say thank you. It has been very touching.”

He is now hoping to do occasional relief work for Post Offices, and will also have more time for his passion of painting.

“Adrian really is at the heart of his community and customers really appreciate all that he has done for them including his friendship and kindness,” said Keith Mabberley, Post Office Area Manager. “He’s been serving Post Office customers for an impressive 40 years and I know that he will be sorely missed.”

Coffee Hall Post Office closes for the last time tomorrow, but the convenience shop that it is inside, remains open. The nearest alternative branches are Netherfield, Harrier Court, Melrose Avenue and Tinkers Bridge.
