Milton Keynes has one of the largest numbers of rapid electric charging points in the UK, according to the latest data from the Department of Transport (DfT).
Currently, there are around 450 rapid electric charging points placed across the city meaning drivers have the option to get an 80% charge in approximately just 20 minutes.
Milton Keynes is also among the cities with most public charge points (equivalent to 162 points per 100,000 people – the UK average is 52 per 100,000).
At the moment, most rapid chargers can be found at motorway services.
Milton Keynes City Council is pushing for more to be installed across the city to try and encourage residents to go electric.
BP Pulse is currently working with Western Power to upgrade a number of MK’s charging points with new electricity connections.
Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Sustainability, Cllr Jenny Wilson-Marklew said: "Milton Keynes is leading the way in this area. We’re working really hard to make it easier for people to make the switch to electric by getting even more reliable infrastructure in place. More electric cars on our roads benefits everyone and help us make MK greener, cleaner – and quieter."
Earlier this year, Milton Keynes City Council announced that it was installing hundreds of new electric vehicle charging points in older areas of the city where there are fewer off-street parking options.
