An independent local nursery has hit the horticultural heights after scooping a winner’s medal and then being interviewed for the BBC by TV legend Dame Mary Berry.
Woburn Farm Plants, of nearby Ridgmont, won a Silver Gilt at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show last week, in its debut year at the festival. The independent nursery specialises in growing rare and exclusive Alstroemeria varieties and delighted visitors and VIPs at the show, as actress Joanna Lumley was presented with a specially selected posy of the lily-like South American flowers.
And on Friday, founder Angela Oliver was interviewed by Dame Mary for the BBC’s RHS Chelsea coverage.
“It was such an honour to speak with Dame Mary Berry about a flower I truly love,” said Angela. “Alstroemerias are hardy, low-maintenance, and absolutely stunning – both in the garden and in a vase. Seeing people discover that at Chelsea has been incredible.”
