Milton Keynes nursery re-opens following devastating fire

Kiddi Caru Walnut Tree Day Nursery and Preschool has re-opened following July’s devastating fire.

Four cabins, situated on the old site, are now serving as a new home for the children and staff whilst the main Walnut Tree nursery is being rebuilt.

On 19th July 2022, a devastating fire broke out in Walnut Tree, destroying several properties. The blaze left families without homes and children and staff without a nursery.

As well as those destroyed, a total of 39 properties were evacuated and at its peak, 15 fire engines were on the scene from across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

Many surrounding homes were also left without power or electricity, as a result of the blaze.

With help from the local community, temporary arrangements were made for the children at the nursery during the summer.

Children under the age of 2 and a half moved into a space at Wavendon Pavilion with their siblings, whilst the older children were based out of our Milton Keynes Village Nursery.

Louise Higgins, Regional Support Manager comment: “I would like to give my utmost thanks to my fantastic team for their continued hand work and everybody who was involved in getting the nursery operational. Being close to the original site, the team and children can see our nursery being rebuilt day by day which is very exciting.”

Since the fire, members of the community have been coming together to raise funds to support those who lost everything as a result of the blaze.

Nearly £9,000 has been raised in total so far, you can make a donation through the JustGiving page here.
