Milton Keynes named most expensive place for a parking permit

A new study has named the city as the most expensive in the country for parking, outside of London.

New research by Moneybarn has named Milton Keynes is home to the most expensive parking permit outside of London.

The study found that the average annual permit in Milton Keynes costs around £693.

The research within the study refers to an average price which includes employee permits and commuter parking permits. Resident parking permits are £25 for the year.

The study states that it believes the reason for the city’s pricey premium could be to 'discourage residents from driving' to reduce traffic in the city.

In second place was Wolverhampton, with an average annual permit cost: £639, £60 less than Milton Keynes.

Swansea and Leeds came out as the cheapest with an annual price of £0. Swansea Council and Leeds Council has made residential permits free.

Despite being the most expensive outside of the capital city, Milton Keynes parking permit prices are still over 50% cheaper than those in the most expensive parts of London. In the City of London, the average parking permits cost around £1,543, leading to a reduction of traffic on residential streets, as drivers with permits won’t have to spend too long searching for a space.

Moneybarn used data from each city and borough council’s website to find the annual parking permit prices for each location to find the rankings.
