Iain Stewart and Ben Everitt, the MPs for Milton Keynes, have encouraged Milton Keynes Council to take advantage of the Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme.
Local authorities and registered providers are able to bid for a share of up to £212 million from the Government scheme to help end rough sleeping.
The funding would provide move-on homes and accompanying support services to people rough sleeping or those with a history of rough sleeping.
Milton Keynes has received more than £7.5 million from the Government since the beginning of 2020 directed specifically at supporting rough sleeping and homelessness which has seen rough sleeping fall by 49% over the last year.
Iain Stewart, the MP for Milton Keynes South, said: “I am pleased that the Government is launching the next phase of the Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme, the first phase was a success with 26,000 rough sleepers across England in longer-term accommodation.
“Therefore, I would encourage Milton Keynes Council to bid for a share of the £212 million to provide move-on homes and accompanying support services for those who need it here in Milton Keynes.”
The funding could be great for long-term solutions believes Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North.
He said: “It’s been promising to see the rough sleeping numbers decrease but there’s still so much more to do and it’s about a long-term solution which the Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme will help with.
“We don’t want to see a single person sleeping on the streets and by providing long-term support such as move-on homes and direct support services we would be able to make a big step in the right direction so I’d strongly encourage the Council to apply for this funding.”
