Milton Keynes MP welcomes decision to include menopause within routine health checks

Emily Darlington, Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes Central, has welcomed announcements made by the Labour Government around women’s health.

Bringing the menopause into routine NHS health checks for the first time.

The government will now be including information about the menopause as part of standard health checks, as well as bringing questions relating to the menopause into the free Health Checks offered to women between 40 and 74. Fewer than one-in-10 women feel they have a sufficient understanding of the menopause under the current system.

The menopause isn’t something that women should be expected to sit down and shut up about – three-quarters of women experience significant symptoms that impact their daily life, yet less than one in 10 feel they truly understand what the menopause means,” Emily said, “This is a long overdue change, and I’m glad that this government is putting women’s health at the heart of their plans to revive our NHS.”

Health Secretary Wes Streeting MP added: “Women have been suffering in silence for far too long and haven’t been encouraged to open up about the symptoms they’re experiencing… this government is overhauling women’s healthcare and giving those experiencing menopause and perimenopause the visibility and support they have long been asking for.”
