Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed the announcement of £750 million funding to help charities through the coronavirus pandemic.
The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has confirmed tens of thousands of charities providing vital services will benefit from direct cash grants as demand for their services increases due to the coronavirus pandemic, including to help domestic abuse victims.
Some £370m of this will go to small and medium-sized charities, including through a grant to the National Lottery Community Fund for those in England, will support those organisations at the heart of local communities which are making a big difference during the outbreak, including those delivering food, essential medicines and providing financial advice.
Hospices will receive £200m of the extra money, while the Government will match pound for pound whatever the public donates to the BBC’s Big Night In charity appeal.
Mr Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “Charities do such wonderful work for our local communities so I’m delighted the Government will be supporting them with a big funding package to ensure their vital services continue through the coronavirus outbreak."
